Orchard House

Orchard House

Boarding for boys in Years 9 to Upper Sixth.

Orchard House was built in the 1920s and is so called because it is on the site of a former orchard (there is still a very productive apple tree in the garden and new trees growing). It is located on the edge of the school campus, a short walk from the classroom block, the sports hall and the dining hall. Orchard House is home to up to 50 boys from both overseas and across the UK.

Meet the Houseparent

Mr Chris Davenport is an Old Breconian and has been teaching for 23 years now. He was delighted to return to Christ College as Houseparent and a teacher of English, whilst also enjoying coaching rugby and cricket. He is a passionate lover of sport and still plays cricket when he can.

Mr Davenport’s favourite book is: Wuthering Heights

Mr Davenport’s favourite weekend activity: Depending on the weather and the time of year, I like playing or watching cricket or getting out in the garden.

What is the best thing about being a houseparent? The best thing about being a houseparent is its wonderful ‘human’ element. This includes the ‘rhythm’ of the house and being able to live in the same space as great young people and enjoy their company outside the classroom. It’s a job i’m hugely privileged to do and thankful for the opportunity.

Orchard House has a close-knit, caring community, the Orchard ‘BRICK’ is the foundation on which this success and happiness is built – Bravery, Resilience, Integrity, Community, Kindness.
