Boarding for boys in Years 9 to Upper Sixth.
Orchard House is one of the two senior boys’ boarding houses, and is located on the edge of the school campus, a few minutes’ walk from the main classroom block, the sports hall, and dining halls. There are around 60 boys in the house, who are predominantly full and weekly boarders with a few boys who opt for the flexiboarding option.
The House is run by Mr & Mrs Thompson who arrived in Brecon in the Summer of 2017. They are assisted by a team including Assistant Houseparents and Tutors. Each tutor is responsible for tutoring a group of pupils within the House. The team of ancillary staff also contribute to the good-humoured, purposeful nature of the House.
Orchard House is a friendly and supportive environment in which to spend one’s Christ College years. Boys are encouraged to set their standards high and pursue their interests and ambitions with energy and enthusiasm.
The building has a different feel to many boarding houses, being cosier and more intimate. Boys in years Year 9 and Year 10 use large study bedrooms, sharing with 3 or 4 others; Year 11 pupils usually share their study bedroom with one or two others; the Sixth Form currently all have a single study bedroom. The boys enjoy the use of two full kitchens, a plethora of excellent bathroom facilities, a self service laundry room (in addition to the twice-weekly laundry service), a table tennis and pool room and two common rooms, the largest of which is a relatively new addition to the house and is large enough to accommodate all the boys at once.
