On Sunday May 7th 2023 Christ College will be hosting the Coronation Mountain Challenge in the Brecon Beacons. Open to parents, staff, Old Breconians and the general public. This follows on from last years successful inaugural event.
The MRT will be manning checkpoints on the route and providing event safety communications . Fabian4, a specialist mountain event company will be providing individual tracking and records of competitor timings.
The events will start and finish in the school grounds. 10 mile Route. This is a low level route using footpaths, roads and the canal towpath. CCB – Dinas Lane – Llanfrynach – Pencelli and back to CCB. 13 mile_ This is a mainly high level route. CCB – Cwm Cynwyn – Pen y Fan – Corn Ddu and descend via Cwm Llwych. Please note: There will be no route markers other than checkpoints 23 mile Extension of 13 mile – Bwlch – Ddwyallt – Fan y Big descending via Corn Ddu, the Obelisk and the Drovers Road from Storey Arms. Junior* (under 19) 23 mile – £20, 13 mile – £15 and 10 mile – £5 *All junior participants must be accompanied by an adultEntry Fees

Kit and Equipment
All entrants for the 13 mile and 23 mile routes must have the following which may be checked and you will be asked to sign a form stating you have met the requirements:
• Map Sheet: 1;25,000 – OL 12 (OS Explorer) Recommended or 1:50,000 – Map Sheet 160 (OS Landranger)
• Compass
• Waterproofs
• Walking/ Mountain boots or fell running shoes
• Spare food (enough to get you around the course)
• Torch
• Water (some water will be available at checkpoints)
• Whistle
Event Completion The Astro for returning walkers will be open until 19:00. Please endeavour to return by that time and notify the organisers of your arrival.Registration Times
Please arrive in plenty of time for your start block and report to the school Astro for registration:
23 mile: 0730-0800 (Mass start 0815. Late starts until 0830)
13 mile 0800-0830 (Mass start 0845. Late starts until 0900)
10 mile 0845-0945 (Mass start 1000)
Walkers who arrive after Checkpoints have closed must retire. Also, you must inform the organisers if you have retired from the event.
