Beacon & Gower Adventure Summer Camp July & August 2022
If your 10-16 year old children are looking for outdoor adventure during the summer holidays, look no further than the Christ College Summer Adventure Camps.
Making the most of the mountains, rivers and woodland of the Brecon Beacons and the incredible Gower coastline, children aged 10-16 will have the choice of a range of activities including high ropes & zip wire, mega stand up paddle boarding, coasteering, kayaking, raft building, gorge walking, tubing, multi-sports and possibly even some axe throwing!
This is an opportunity for children to have fun, build new friendships and enjoy a great sense of achievement as they explore beautiful places and harness their spirt of adventure away from home.
If you are looking for your children to enjoy some quality time outdoors with other young people, then this camp will be ideal.
Based at Christ College, we make full use of the surrounding areas nearby and further afield along the Gower coastline. Children will have the best of both worlds: adventure during the day, an evening programme of fun and relaxation at night back at the boarding house. There will be one night camping under the starts at the coast.
Activities are gently challenging and aimed at encouraging teamwork and having fun. As a parent you are offered complete reassurance that your children are enjoying themselves in the great outdoors. As children, you will have fun and a great adventure!

Adventure, Sport & Recreational Activities
The course is designed for children to thrive in a new environment, make friends, work in teams and enjoy new challenges. The camp offers a wide range of activities to suit all tastes and interests.
The Beacon Adventure
The Brecon Beacons National Park is one of the premier locations in the UK to enjoy a wide range of adventurous activities such as gorge walking, rock climbing, canoeing, raft building and abseiling.
Children will have a choice of activities over three days and will be encouraged to try them all. Have a look at these details below and see which ones are tempting!
High Level Ropes & Zip Wire
Equipped with a safety harness and climbing helmet, you will attempting several rope challenges starting from ground level up to 30ft high, such as the balance log, trapeze bar and cow tails. But don’t worry, your team mates are there to help and encourage you and your instructor is keeping a close watch at all times. You will finish with an 80 meter zip wire.
Gorge Scrambling & Rock Climbing
An immensely popular activity which includes jumps, slides, swims and an array of challenges. Wearing wetsuits, buoyancy aid and water helmet you will following your instructor and his instructions and will be making your way upstream of the river, exploring behind waterfalls, jumping off ledges and jumping into deep pools. The day would be split between the two activities, giving both a wet and dry option throughout the day.
Open Canoeing
For this activity you will be given a buoyancy aid and paddle. Your instructor will lead you on a short river trip, coaching you in paddling skills and canoe control along the way.
Paddle Boarding
Solo or as a team on the mega-SUP, a great way to enjoy travelling along the river and take part in a whole range of games, challenge and fun activities.
The Gower Adventure
Mountain Challenge
What better way to start the week than to scale Pen Y Fan or one of the many other peaks in the local area and contemplate all there is to achieve. The destination and route will be adapted to suit the needs, age and abilities of participants.
Caving
South Wales is one of the UKs best areas for exploring the subterranean environment. Caving is an enormously powerful activity where all participants achieve so much more than they think they can. A progressive series of challenges, interspersed with some fascinating insights into the geology and geomorphology of the underground environment makes caving a perfect activity for mixed ability groups wanting to learn, grow and have fun.
Coasteering
For age groups younger than 14, the cliffs between Caswell Bay and Brandy Cove offer a fascinating journey through ledges, caves and pools, culminating with a series of jumps into the sea.
For groups older than 14, the cliffs of Rhossili present a much more challenging environment adding much more swimming and a progressively higher range of jumps.
Rock Climbing
Several crags on the Gower coast are ideally suited to novice climbers to gain the skills and confidence to safely climb sheer rock faces operating in teams taking responsibility for each others safety. Venue and route choice can be varied to take into account the age, needs and abilities of all students.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding
The sheltered bays around the area are great venues to explore and discover secret rocky coves and hidden beaches. A whole range of games, challenges and fun activities ensures younger students have a positive experience whilst older students can make the most of simple journeys or surf depending upon conditions.
Sport & Team Challenges
Sports coaches will be leading team based games in traditional sports as well as frisbee golf, capture the flag and swimming. Students will have an opportunity to challenge themselves in teams and have fun along the way.
Art or Photography
Listening to feedback last year and in order to offer time for some creative pursuits, students may choose an art or photography workshop to capture the essence of their adventure week. Working with professionals in the art and photography studios, a number of creative options will be available to explore and use to create a piece of work that can be taken home as a reminder of a great adventure.
Recreational Activities
Despite busy and action packed days, students will enjoy free time to relax in the grounds or in the boarding house with supervision at all times. There will also be a full programme of evening activities in which to participate and round off each day.
Excellent facilities include extensive sports fields, heated swimming pool, sports hall, tennis and squash courts, all-weather sports pitch, 9 hole golf course, a performance hall.
Social events include, camp fires, parachute games, team challenges, treasure hunts, quizzes and an end of camp party.
Accommodation & Pastoral Care
Our aim is for everyone to enjoy a fantastic summer experience in a warm and caring environment. Students will stay in comfortable boarding houses, each with their own common areas for relaxation. They will be looked after by male and female Group Leaders as well as resident Team Leads.

Each student will be assigned to a House Tutor who will be responsible for the student’s well-being during the camp.
All food preferences will be catered for through a diverse range of British and international well-balanced cuisine.
Meals will either be served in our Dining Hall, at our adventure site as a picnic or occasionally around the camp fire.
