When is the Summer Adventure School?
What will I do?
Our Summer Adventure School is packed full of exciting activities, with each day bringing new experiences and unforgettable memories.
Children will have the best of both worlds: adventure during the day, and an evening programme full of fun and relaxation in the boarding house at night. Read on to find out about some of the activities your child will get up to!
English Language Teaching (EAL)
Formal English language tuition will take place in small classes and children will be grouped according to ability. English language tuition will focus on teaching students to express their thoughts and ideas in English and to respond to English speakers. Both written and oral proficiency will be targeted. The camps will include up to 20 hours of English language classes.
Students will be immersed daily in English language as English will be spoken by all camp participants and teachers at all times.
High Ropes, Zip Wire, Climbing and Abseiling
Unleash your inner Tarzan with our high-level ropes and zip wire course. Equipped with a safety harness and climbing helmet, you will attempt several rope challenges starting from ground level up to 30ft high. Next, check out the climbing wall and learn how to abseil. Will you attempt the vertical take-off? Don’t worry, instructors are there to gently encourage and keep a close eye on safety. Whizz to the end of the course on an 80-metre zip wire.
Gorge Walking
A firm favourite amongst our campers, this immensely popular activity an array of challenges. Wearing wetsuits, buoyancy aid and water helmet you will follow an instructor to embark on a exciting journey along the river, exploring behind waterfalls, jumping off ledges and jumping into deep pools.
Assault Course
Fancy getting really, really muddy? It’s your chance to take on the Muddiest Assault Course in the World! In most sports, mud is a problem, but for this assault course is set in and around the trees and natural springs in ancient woodland. You have to climb over things, jumo across things and… crawl through mud. It’s brilliant everybody who tries it loves it!
Surfing & Coasteering
Get stuck into the sea and surf of the Gower coastline and learn from our experts how to stand on a surfboard and ride the waves, or take on the thrill of coasteering as you scramble, jump, and swim your way along the rugged Welsh shore — all while soaking up the beauty of this spectacular coastal landscape. (Ages 10–12 take to the waves; 13–16 tackle the cliffs)
Paddleboarding and Canoeing
Take to the water for a day of paddle boarding and open canoeing. Younger students will enjoy learning new skills and playing games on calm waters along the promenade or canal, while older students set out on a scenic trip on the river Wye – a perfect adventure through the heart of the Welsh countryside.
Karting
To get adrenaline pumping, we’ll be going on a trip to Newport’s number one indoor go-karting centre where your child will enjoy racing on the largest and fastest track in Wales. (Ages 13-16 only)
Alpaca Walking
Set off on a unique adventure through the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park, walking side by side with your very own alpaca. Enjoy the peaceful scenery as you lead, walk, and get to know your furry friend before finishing by hand feeding them a well-earned treat. (Ages 10-12 only)
Sport Activities
Sports coaches will be leading team-based games in traditional sports including football, cricket and tennis as well as capture the flag, volleyball, water polo and swimming.
Personal Development Day
Each week features a Personal Development Day, providing students with a well-earned break from outdoor adventure and the opportunity to enjoy a selection of short sessions and activities. Children will take part in a mix of creative, practical, and confidence-building workshops. From bushcraft and self-defence to art, photography, and music making, each session offers a chance to learn new skills and explore individual interests. Whether they’re creating their own cartoon story, mastering fire-making, or performing with friends, every child will come away with new experiences, greater self-belief, and a few impressive creations to take home.
Time to Relax
Alongside action-packed days, campers will enjoy free time to relax in the school grounds or in the boarding house. There will also be a fun programme of evening activities to round off each day.
Our on-site facilities include large sports fields, heated swimming pool, sports hall, tennis and squash courts, all-weather sports pitch, and a drama theatre which are available for use in free time.
There’ll also be time to gather around the campfire, enjoy game nights and team quizzes before ending the week with a camp party to celebrate our time together.
Where will I stay?
Located at Christ College Brecon, campers will stay in comfortable boarding accommodation in shared rooms, with a limited number of single rooms available.
Campers will be expertly looked after by our trained male and female Team Leaders as well as resident House Leaders. Each student will be assigned to a Team Leader who will be responsible for the child’s wellbeing during the camp and be a friendly face to mentor them.
If you have any specific requirements when it comes to room sharing, please get in touch and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Food will be healthy and nutritionally balanced with diverse range of British and international cuisine to choose from. Meals will either be served in our Dining Hall, at our adventure site as a picnic or occasionally around the campfire.
