Target Shooting for St Nicholas pupils

From half term onwards we are offering air rifle target shooting as an extra-curricular activity for junior school pupils.

Mr Mark Bevan, the schools Combined Cadet Force SSI, has been working hard to ensure that the school’s range is set up for smaller people, which successfully passed an inspection last week. We are very grateful to the Friends of Christ College Brecon, who have provided funds to purchase new small air rifles to suit little hands. We are now good to go!

Mr Bevan will take 6 pupils at a time, 3 shooting whilst 3 wait. The plan is to offer the session to 12 pupils over the course of an hour on a Wednesday from 4.00-4.45pm. We expect lots of demand for this club and so we will have to limit numbers, but will ensure that all children who wish to have a try will have the opportunity to do so before the end of the academic year.

CCF is a large part of school life as pupils move through the school and we anticipate this club being a super way to expose junior children to some of the skills before they move into the senior school.

All of Years 9 and 10 pupils take part in the school’s CCF on a Thursday afternoon, and the majority of Year 10 begin the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. We currently have 6 pupils shooting for Wales. The Army and Royal Air Force sections of the CCF give the pupils the chance to get involved in outward bound activities, fixed-wing flying, and weekend expeditions in the Brecon Beacons.
