Start of Term Adventure Days

Adventure Days

Last week, pupils in Year 7 to Year 12 braved all kinds of weather during their exciting adventure days.

The week began with Year 11 exploring the Black Mountains, with some managing to visit the remains of the WW2 Canadian Bomber, which tragically crashed there in similar weather conditions during the war. They discovered the history behind the site while (intermittently) taking in the stunning views of the surrounding hills.

Year 10 then took on a climbing day, an opportunity for some to refine their existing skills and for others to try it for the first time. Pupils learned how to safely use the equipment, plan their routes, and challenge themselves on the outdoor venue at Morlais Quarry.

Next up was Year 9, who spent the day hiking across the Beacons, taking in the peak of Fan Frynach. Through sunshine, rain, and strong winds, they showed great resilience and enthusiasm, making the most of their time on the hillside.

Years 7 and 8 were faced with the challenge of a 14km walk, where they collected environmental data, observed an Osprey nesting site and navigated the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal. Despite the changeable weather, their energy and team spirit remained positive throughout.

To round off the week, our Sixth Form pupils took their turn at climbing. Forced to indoor walls due to the weather, this naturally competitive group thrived on the challenge, testing their speed, improving technique, and encouraging each other throughout.

These adventure days offer a fantastic opportunity for outdoor learning, team building, and personal growth, whilst providing the perfect opportunity for our pupils to re-acquaint themselves after the summer break and welcome new classmates to the school . We’re incredibly fortunate to have such outstanding natural resources right on our doorstep.
