Sophia Makes It To The Final 50 Of Bbc 500 Words Competition

One of Christ College Brecon’s youngest pupils, Sophia Johnson, has made it through to the final 50 of the BBC’s 500 Words Competition in the Nine and Under category. Sophia, who is a pupil in J3 at St Nicholas House, Christ College’s junior section, has been invited to St James’s Palace for the live final.

Sophia’s story, Algernon The Theatre Mouse, made it through to the last 500 stories which was cause for much celebration but her family and all at Christ College are absolutely delighted that she has made it through to the final round. She will be heading off to London to the live final on the 29th May which will be hosted by Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall. Out of the final 50 stories, the six winning stories will be narrated by guest celebrities and announced during the show. After the show, all the guests will attend a special reception with HRH The Duchess.

Head of Christ College, Mrs Emma Taylor, said, “We are so proud of Sophia and her achievement in getting to the final 50 of this high-profile competition. All of our pupils in our younger year groups have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the competition and the fact that one of our very youngest pupils will have this experience at St James’s Palace is a testament to her imagination and writing skills. We are absolutely thrilled for her and will keep our fingers crossed that Algernon The Theatre Mouse is a winner.”

Her story has been recorded by the Radio Drama Company and can be heard and read on the BBC website bbc.co.uk/500words.
