Seren brings the school mini bus to life with her creativity

Seren brings the school mini bus to life with her creativity

Year 7 pupil, Seren recently discovered that her school bus driver, Karl, was also a talented cartoonist. She started asking him many questions, followed his YouTube channel, and bought some of his books.

One day, Seren had an idea: what if Karl illustrated a comic, and she wrote it? They quickly turned this casual conversation into a real project.

With her vivid imagination and determination, Seren was ready to make it happen, and Karl happily agreed to bring her vision to life. Together, they decided on a storyline about the adventures on the school mini bus or “Fun Bus”, with Karl illustrating two comic pages and leaving the scriptwriting entirely to Seren.

Karl explained that Marvel comics, in the old days, used a technique called the ‘Marvel Way’ which involved the artist being given a brief paragraph description of the twenty-two-page story.

The artist would produce the comic and send it back to Marvel HQ, the writer would then look at the art and write the dialogue, based on what they saw. Seren took all this in and when Karl produced these wonderful pages of art, she went home and by the next morning she had scripted it all based only on what he had drawn.

We’re thrilled by Seren’s initiative and her interest in Karl’s work, and we think you’ll agree that the final product is truly impressive.

Thank you to Karl Dixon, cartoonist and mini bus driver, for creating the wonderful illustrations. If you would like to find out more about Karl’s work you can take a look at his YouTube channel: Diary of a Cartoonist
