On the evening of March 15, 2013 The Society of Friends held a Spring Dinner and Promise Auction at Peterstone Court Country House & Spa, Brecon, raising funds for the Christ College 475th Anniversary Campaign and, in particular, the appeal for Y Neuadd Goffa: The Memorial Hall.
People from all areas of the Christ College community came together to enjoy what was a fantastic charity event. Throughout the night musical entertainment was provided exclusively by current pupils, with the support of their teaching staff.
The Ballroom was decorated by Jessica Bridgeman and her team from Peterstone Court and flowers were provided by Lisa Lawrence.
The “Welsh No10” sparkling cocktail was served to the 150 guests on arrival and they were serenaded by Christ College’s Lower String Quartet and virtuoso Piano. The Harp accompanied the Spring Dinner, which was generously sponsored by Black Mountains Smokery, Glaisfer Farm, Paddy Sweeney, Cradoc’s Savoury Biscuits, Fine Wines Direct and, of course, Peterstone Court themselves.
The Chamber Choir performed a medley from Les Miserables, as a taster for the school production in December, before the evening was handed over to Andrew Morgan of Morgan & Davies Auctioneers, who conducted the Grand Auction.
Many local businesses, as well as individuals, donated lots or promises which were either auctioned on-line prior to the event, became part of the Grand Raffle or were included in the Grand Auction on the night.
Finally, the band Idle Hands performed their soulful music to what had by now become quite an animated audience!
Quite apart from the evening being a wonderful social occasion, the event has enabled the Friends to donate over £20,000 towards the lounge area in the foyer of Y Neuadd Goffa, creating a welcoming space for pupils, staff, parents and OBs to congregate, meet, wait and relax.
