17 pupils represented Christ College at the Welsh Schools Skiing Champs at Llangrannog Ski Centre. last weekend.
The Primary school event had 52 entries, 27 girls and 25 boys. The event comprised of registered and unregistered ski racers, the registered children being club skiers.
On the Saturday 4 pupils from the junior section, St Nicholas House competed in the primary races with the school winning 2 individual medals and finishing in 5th place overall.
The under 10 event saw Toby Davies racing in the registered skier event, which he won having fallen on his first run. He did well to handle the pressure and put an excellent second run in of 11.44 seconds. He was the fastest overall boy under ten and also second in the overall primary boys race which includes the under 12 primary boys.
Holly Mathias won the unregistered Under 12 girls competition beating a large field of unregistered racers with a time of 15.02 seconds.
In the team competition these two were joined by Anna and Izzy Hindmarsh. Anna and Izzy hadn’t skied on a dry ski slope ever before, they showed great resolve in practice, doing exceptionally well in the actual races. Without them taking part we would not have been able to compete in the team event in which we finished 5th out of the nine schools entered.
The success continued into Sunday with the senior girls team finishing in 3rd place and qualifying for the British Schools Skiing Champs. Meanwhile , the senior boys teams narrowly missing out on qualifying and finished in 6th and 7th place. The school also picked up four more individual medals;
Sophie Pickup 3rd U14 unregistered girls
Inga Huschen 3rd U16 unregistered girls
Harry Hindmarsch 2nd U18 unregistered boys
Dylan Rees 3rd U18 unregistered boys
Congratulations to everyone who participated.
