Issy Takes Silver At The British Triathlon Inter-Regional Championships!

Having trained hard for the past year for this prestigious event, Issy lined up alongside 32 of the best triathletes in Great Britain for her age group to tackle the Eton Dorney course – location of the Olympic 2012 rowing events.

A good strong swim over the 350m lake course saw Issy exit the water in third place but a quick transition allowed her to start the 5.3km bike leg in the lead. Issy led a break away of three girls from the chasing pack giving them a time cushion going into the 2.5km run. Issy came out of the 2nd transition phase closely behind the leading athlete. They were evenly matched on the run and put a distance between them and the 3rd placed athlete. A delighted Issy finished in second place with a time of 24m 21s.

Chris Goulden, Welsh triathlon development coach commented: “This is an outstanding performance at this level of competition.”
Issy was selected for the Welsh team after winning the Welsh Tristar Triathlon Series, which held it’s final triathlon in July. This consisted of a series of six races held across Wales. Issy will now be joining the Welsh Triathlon Performance Development Programme, which should see her competing nationally at junior level next year.
