Gcse Results – Exam Success Across The Board

AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF THE NEW REFORMED GCSE EXAMINATIONS, CHRIST COLLEGE PUPILS PROVE THAT CHANGE IS NO HURDLE TO SUCCESS.

Gareth Pearson, who has just taken over as Head at Christ College Brecon, was delighted to receive the news of an excellent set of GCSE results. “On behalf of all the staff at the College, I would like to congratulate the pupils on achieving some excellent results this summer, results which will establish a fabulous platform upon which to start their A- level studies.”

For the first time this year, Christ College pupils sat GCSEs in both the established (graded A*-E) format and the new reformed (graded 9-1) system in English Language, English Literature and Mathematics.

Overall, results were exceptionally good with 96% of all entries graded at C (or its equivalent or above) with a remarkable 46% at A and A*. 90% of pupils achieved 5+ GCSEs including English and Maths, 95% of entries in Maths and English were C or equivalent or above.
In Mathematics 54% of entries were 7 or higher with 29 % at the elite levels 8 and 9. It was a similar story in English Literature with 49% of grades 7+ with 27% at levels 8 and 9. 43% of English language entries at level 7 plus.
The subjects which did particularly well on the established system included Geography and History with 54% and 55% A*/A and Art and Photography with 72% at A*/A. In Biology, Chemistry and Physics, overall, 57% of all grades were A or A*. 98% of pupils achieved C or above in Science.

The College is also proud of the fact that 100% of the pupils achieved 5 or more GCSEs at Grade C.

Pupils doing particularly well include:
Darius Rameshni from Llandysul and both Hannah Mathias and Carys Cronin from Brecon all achieved 7 A* or the new equivalent. In addition, Daniel Clark from Hereford achieved 6A* and Phoebe Sussman and Poppy Lawley achieved 5 A *’s.
The new Head, Gareth Pearson, commented ‘These young people typify Christ College Brecon pupils, achieving excellent academic results whilst also contributing fully to so many other aspects of College life. They are hugely impressive young people.’
