Fused glass workshop with the artist Sue Thorne

Fused glass workshop with the artist

Sue Thorne

On Tuesday 6th February, we were delighted to have had the renowned local artist Sue Thorne running a glass fusing workshop with our Year 10 Art students.

There has been great excitement in preparation for this workshop and pupils have been working hard on their own designs, derived from their sketchbook drawings.  We are very lucky to have a newly established and fully equipped glass studio in school, complete with a shiny new glass kiln and a rainbow of coloured glass to work with.

We made good use of the studio on the day and pupils will continue to develop their designs further, learning how to paint their fused glass pieces in lesson with Mrs Houghton before it gets fired in the kiln for a second time.

Their pieces will make a unique and valuable addition the Year 10 art coursework portfolios. Pupils commented on how they enjoyed learning how to collage the pieces together, how to cut the glass and most of all having the opportunity to play with light and colour in their work. Thank you to Sue for an inspiring and successful day where much was learned and achieved.
