150 entrants took part in the second Christ College Brecon Mountain Challenge which took place on Sunday 7th May in the Brecon Beacons. For this year only it was renamed as the Coronation Mountain Challenge. The conditions were perfect for the three routes – 10, 13 and 23 miles. It was good to see so many teachers and pupils out on the course with our youngest pupils from St Nicholas House and Alway House pupils doing both the 10 and 13 mile courses.
There were some great individual and family performances. On the 10 mile course first home were mother and daughter Sonia and Bronessa Hawking with a time of 2h 39 mins. There were very creditable performances too from the Langley and Capon families with Hannah Langley, Tom Langley and Evan Capon coming in at 3h 11 , closely followed by Louise Capon, Kate Langley and Colin Langley at 3h 12 minutes.
On the 13 mile course John Thompson came in first with 2.22 and the first woman home was Angela Price with a time of 3h 19 minutes . There was also a good effort from father and son, Matthew and Oliver Dorise-Turrell , on the 13 mile course with a time of 3h 23 minutes.

The Head and a parent Will McLean posted a good time of 7h 44, with another Christ College staff member, Robin Francis and his father David came in with a very respectable 8h 22 minutes.
Many thanks to the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team who manned Event Control and the checkpoints on the 13 and 23 mile routes. Thanks also to Fabian 4 for managing the competitor tracking of the event. We are also grateful to all of the the Christ College staff and Sixth Form pupils who volunteered to assist on the day and helped to make it such a great success.
