Last weekend Alway House pupils performed a spectacular ‘promenade’ performance of the classic ‘Wind in the Willows’. The performance included transforming the school’s Sixth Form Centre into ‘The Wild Wood’, the Dining Hall into ‘Toad Hall’ and saw a sell out audience moving through various locations throughout the school.
The students involved confidently interacted with the audience, staying in role throughout and creating a truly interactive performance that blurred the lines between the ‘stage’ and the ‘spectator.’ Ably led by Craig Whittall (Friday’s performance) and Jet Treasure-Jeffreys (Saturday’s performance) as Toad, the performance included live music, singing, video and snowfall!
Head of Drama and Director John Johnson was thrilled with the contribution of the Alway students. He commented ‘All students were involved whether it was acting on stage, assisting the technical team, playing an instrument, singing a solo or making a video. I feel that the students learnt and gained so much from this type of performance – it really was a team effort and there are memories that those involved will take with them forever.’
Next year’s Alway Production will be staged in the school’s new Centre for the Creative Arts – Y Neuadd Goffa ~ The Memorial Hall and so there is much to look forward to for our budding performers.
