AS PART OF THE SCHOOL’S CELEBRATIONS OF THE 475TH ANNIVERSARY ITS FOUNDING BY ROYAL CHARTER, A CONCERT WILL BE TAKING PLACE AT THE DORA STOUTZKER CONCERT HALL AT THE ROYAL WELSH COLLEGE OF MUSIC AND DRAMA ON FRIDAY 22ND APRIL.
On Friday 22nd April 2016 at 7.00 pm. musicians from the Christ College community will take to the stage of the Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. The concert is being held during this significant year in the history of Christ College and the musical programme will reflect the breadth and depth of musical talent at the school whilst also making explicit links with the music that existed during the time of our founder, Henry VIII. Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose, composed by Alexander L’Estrange, is a cantata for SATB chorus, unison children’s choir and five-piece band. Performing the work will be the children of St Nicholas House, the Chapel Choir and adult members of the extended Christ College community.
An exciting addition to the programme will be a feature of the work of the school’s Crescendo Orchestra, sitting side-by-side with members of the Welsh Sinfonia under the baton of their Musical Director, Mark Eager. This is the second year that Christ College have now been involved with the Welsh Sinfonia’s Crescendo project, where these professional players are helping to build orchestras in several schools across Wales. The Christ College Chamber Choir and String Orchestra will also be performing in the concert and there will be special appearances from two prominent Old Breconians, both active performers in the professional sphere.
Further information with regard to ticket sales will appear soon and will be via the Box Office at RWCMD. In the meantime, save the date! Furthermore, if you are keen to be involved as a singer in the performance of Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose, please do contact Director of Music, Jonathan Ling directly at jonathan.ling@christcollegebrecon.com . Rehearsals will take place every Monday evening between 6.30p.m. and 7.30p.m. in Y Neuadd Goffa: The Memorial Hall at Christ College, starting on Monday 11th January.
