The Annual House Sports Day was held on a dry day at Penlan Track.The whole school joined together to compete in track and field. Through the events there was some fabulous close battles and superb effort by all the competitors. There was an excellent turn out of parents to support and the CCB Friends provided the refreshments.
The Alway House competition was really enjoyable and competitive. Usk won the overall competition on the final relay event to secure the crown by half a point over Taf. The 400m races were keenly tested with Bea Purvis (Usk) holding off Megan Reynolds (Taf) by just 0.26s.
In the 60m sprint Ernest Meerson (Wye) snatched victory Michael Suter (Taf) by the finest of margins of 0.9s.
Molly Pearson (Usk) held off Daisyanna Stephens (Taf) to secure a close win in the long jump event. Douglas Freeman (Usk) showed superb speed to win the 100m beating Tali Eastwood (Taf).
The relays came down to the final 10m and Usk won both to ensure the title.
There were some fabulous performances in the older events. In the Girls Year 9/10 discus Poppy Roberts (Don) won with almost a 2m lead over Ellie Williams (Don).
In the Year 9/10 1500m there was an impressive battle between Jack Perrin (Orc) and Tom McLean (Orc), with Jack winning by just 1sec.
In the Senior Girls 400m Medi Lewis (Don) showed great determination with an impressive run which was 2 seconds quicker than the field. Equally exciting was the finish in the Girls Year 9/10 100m race with Lily Purvis (Don) holding off Olivia O'Brien (SDA) by just 0.37secs.
The last event of the competition saw a 'winners take all' relay race with winners Donaldson's just doing enough to cross the line first and take the overall competition.
From the off in the 1500m Fergus Stevens (Orc) battled hard to stay ahead of Patrick Howells (Orc) with Fergus holding on for the win.
As always the most anticipated events of the competition were the 100m. In a close finish Anastasia Yasyuchenya (DeW) held off the close challenge from Immy Phillips (Don).
The Senior Boys 100m certainly held up to expectation with 0.02sec between 1st and 2nd. Ben Masters (Orc) held off Darius Rameshni (Orc) in impressive style to complete the double with his 200m victory.
In the final event of Sports Day St David's House held off the Orchard and School House displaying excellent composure through the batten changes and determination in the final 20m.
Sports Day ran smoothly with enthusiastic support from the Houses watching from the bank and an excellent turn out of parents added to the noise and excitement.
