The Sanatorium is conveniently situated in the centre of the school on the way to the Dining Hall. There is a five-bedded ward and four twin-bedded rooms, most with lovely views over the school sports' fields. It is a spacious Sanatorium, with its own kitchen facilities and dumb waiter to the main school kitchens, large day room with sofa and easy chairs for students to relax and recuperate in comfort in front of the television or video, and modern up-dated Doctor's and Sister's surgery.
Three fully qualified professional Registered General Nurses offering 24 hour care staff the Sanatorium. The Duty Sister holds three surgeries a day and is always available between surgeries for emergencies or for a confidential chat. A School Counsellor visits weekly to provide support for individual pupils. He also visits each boarding house to give lectures on stress management during exam times.
The Health Centre is just across the road from the school and the War Memorial Hospital is less than five minutes drive away for X-ray, Physiotherapy and Outpatient appointments, such as podiatry and orthodontic treatment. Emergencies for children are dealt with in Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.
There are three doctor's surgeries a week, on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A female doctor may be requested.
The Sanatorium is involved in the School's Health and Safety programme, lectures in First Aid and Sex Education, and a Vaccination programme is also run within the school. The Sanatorium Sisters see their role as providing holistic care to the students. Students are encouraged to view the Sanatorium as a safe haven where they can be themselves and have a moment's respite from the busy school life when needed.
