Language Support
The EAL Department provides pupils whose mother tongue is not English with the necessary language to participate fully in learning and social life as soon as possible after their arrival.
The EAL Department oversees and supports overseas pupils in their integration in the school community. All new Lower Sixth pupils have a programme of visits which is coordinated with their language study with the aim of broadening their awareness of British and particularly Welsh culture. Called "Blas ar Gymru" (a Taste of Wales), the programme includes outdoor trips to the coasts and mountains of Wales and visit to Cardiff Castle, the National Outdoor Museum and a coal mine. As well as events arising from pupils' interests and class discussions.
The EAL Department also supports overseas pupils in their individual subjects with work with a heavy language content and prepares pupils for English language examinations necessary for their future studies.
Please use the EAL liink on the left of this page to find out more about staff, course content, timetabling and charges.
