Christ College's Sports/Activities Co-ordinator and Housemaster (St David's House) Mr. Gary Halpin was part of a star studded line up of players who played in the England v Ireland Legends on Friday 26th February.
The fixture took place at Harlequin's Stoop, in advance of the 6 Nations clash between the two countries at Twickenham.
The teams played to win the Stuart Mangan Memorial Cup, in memory of Stuart Mangan, a Cork and Munster man, who tragically died last year at the age of 26, following a neck injury which he suffered whilst playing rugby in 2008.

The match was played to also raise funds for the Matt Hampson Trust in England, and the IRFU Charitable Trust and Keith Wood's Paralysed Players Fund, in Ireland. All three charities support and assist players who have suffered injury whilst playing rugby.
It is hoped that this Legends match will become an annual fixture and plans are already under way for the return match to be played in Dublin, in 2011.

Mr Halpin joined Christ College in September 2008. He was educated in Rockwell College, Tipperary and then went to university in Manhattan College, New York where he graduated with a BSc in Business in 1988. After he gained his PGCE in Business Studies in 1991 he worked in St George's College Weybridge, Surrey until 1995 when he became a professional rugby player with London Irish, Harlequins and Irish Provincial side, Leinster.
He played 11 times for Ireland and also played for the Barbarians. In addition to being an international rugby player, Gary also represented Ireland at athletics in the hammer throw. He returned to teaching in 2001 and in the classroom he teaches Business Studies and Geography. His extra curricular interests are wide and varied ranging from Young Enterprise to Rugby and Athletics coaching. He enjoys playing guitar, hill walking and motorcycle touring.
