The CCB 1st VII Squad - Marches 7s Finalists

The Christ College 1st VII gave a superb display of 7s rugby in reaching the final of the Marches 7s held in Hereford on Sunday 28th February.

Christ College were in a pool of three with Arnold School, Blackpool and Old Swinford Hospital in a round robin format.  Christ College beat Arnold 21 – 12 and Old Swinford 21 – 19; this took us through to the first round of the knock-out where we were drawn against Solihull.

Christ College beat Solihull 17 – 12 which meant an all-Welsh quarter final against Ysgol Glantaf. In a nail biting finish Christ College beat a strong Glantaf team 15 – 10 scoring a try with the last move of the game. This put Christ College into the semi-final where we came up against Plymouth College who we defeated 12 – 5 to take us through to the final.

The final was against Barnard Castle, who had defeated Millfield in their semi-final. Their bigger forwards were used to good effect and although we were 5 - 5 all with the second half to play, Barnard Castle scored two tries late on to make the final score 17 – 5.

Despite being physically the smallest squad at the tournament, the players showed great determination and commitment and tackled ferociously throughout. All players are deserving of praise but a special mention to captain Max Proctor who played every minute of every game and led by example throughout.
