The Chapel Appeal Aspects of this much loved building are in need of restoration and repair and whilst Christ College finances are very sound, resources are needed for other routine maintenance and major capital projects. Any surplus is used up in financial concessions to assist needy pupils from poorer backgrounds. Quite simply, all of the required funds are not readily available to meet this specific need from within Christ College's own financial resources in the timescale in which the work to the Chapel is required. 
The future of young scientists in Wales looks brighter today (22 May 2009) as a £1.5 million sustainable science centre was officially opened at Christ College Brecon.
The Science Centre at Christ College was one of the finalists in the Public Buildings category at the South Wales Local Authority Building Control Awards held in Cardiff.
Head of Christ College Emma Taylor was featured on the BBC's Dragon's Eye programme where she presented her views on how Independent Boarding Schools such as Christ College could play a part in the educating of vulnerable and disadvantaged children, whilst alleviating some of the burden from the Care system. Contributing to the debate was Plaid Cymru AM Leanne Wood. Three Christ College pupils have returned to school after spending half term as part of a Challenger yacht crew which sailed from the Azores to Tenerife.
Following the announcement of the development of a new science centre, Christ College Brecon has joined forces with Tredegar based company Penn Pharmaceutical Services Ltd to launch a joint scholarship scheme aimed at providing career opportunities for young scientists.
Next generation scientists and engineers are set to benefit from the development of a £1.5 million purpose-built science centre which is currently being constructed. This investment is the latest in a series of developments since receiving a £4 million bequest from a former pupil. The windfall was due to the generosity of Old Breconian and pharmacist, David Hubert Jones, from Glanaman in Carmarthenshire, who wished the money to be spent fostering a future generation of scientists.
Plans were announced this week to put 467 years of history on display at Christ College, thanks to a £44,600 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Historical artefacts and records which have until now been in storage, will soon take pride of place in a museum-standard archive within the school's library.
The Chair of the Charity Commission praises Christ College Brecon in a recent speech to a gathering of independent school heads.
