Christ College offers Scholarships and Exhibitions to recognise academic, artistic, musical, sporting and all-round talent.
Scholarships and Exhibitions are available at each age group range from 10% to a maximum of 50% of full fees and are competed for openly at prescribed dates.
Bursaries are also available in case of financial hardship. Bursaries are subject to means-testing and are reviewed annually.
The awards described below are offered by competition. Sixth Form candidates must be under 17 years of age, senior candidates under 14, and junior candidates under 12 on the 1st September in the year of entry. The value of each scholarship is subject to a proportion adjustment when there is a change in the school's basic fee.
11+ and 13+ Awards
- Academic Scholarships: Up to 10 scholarships & exhibitions, ranging in value from 10% to 50% of full fees.
- Music Scholarships: Up to 6 scholarships with the same range in value as academic awards, plus free tuition on one instrument.
- Sport Scholarships: Available annually to 11+ and 13+ candidates showing outstanding talent.
- Science Scholarships: Available annually to 13+ candidates.
- WG Fryer All-Rounder Scholarship: Available annually to 13+ candidates. the holder will be expected to show academic promise and in addition to have a proven track record in one or more of art, music, technology and sport.
- Art Exhibition: One exhibition of up to 20% of the fees to be awarded to a 13 year old boy or girl showing exceptional promise in art.
Sixth Form Awards
- Academic Scholarships: Available annually, ranging in value from 10% to 50% of full fees.
- Music Scholarships: Available annually with the same range in value as academic awards, plus free tuition on one instrument.
- Science Scholarships: Available annually to Sixth Form candidates.
- The Penn Award: Available to Sixth Form candidates and ranging from 50% of full fees up to 100% depending on personal circumstances. Preference in the first instance to a candidate domiciled in Wales. The holder will be expected to study Chemistry, Biology and possibly Mathematics, but will also need to demonstrate business acumen/commercial awareness. The award comes with up to 4 weeks paid work experience per annum with the option of working towards a work-based qualification with Penn Pharmaceutical Services Ltd in Tredegar.
- Sports Awards: Two such awards are available annually to candidates for entry to the Sixth Form. The holders will be expected to fulfil the normal academic entry requirements of 6 or more GCSE passes at Grade C or higher, and in addition to have won representative honours in at least one of the school's major sports – rugby, hockey, netball and cricket.
- The Lord Brecon Scholarship: Available annually. Preference in the first instance to a candidate who was born or lives in Breconshire.
- The Roydon Griffiths Scholarship: Available annually.
- The Eddie Vaughan Award: Available annually at Sixth Form level for a pupil showing strong academic potential as well as strength in an extracurricular realm which if awarded to a boy would ideally be cricket.
- The G John Herdman Award: Available annually. Preference in the first instance to a candidate who suffers from some physical disability but open to other applicants if no such candidate comes forward.
- The Llysdinam Award: Available annually to support thoroughly deserving individuals to attend Christ College who might not otherwise be able to do so for financial reasons.
- The Frederick A Pike Award: Available annually. Preference in the first instance to a candidate who was born or lives in Cardiganshire.
Bursaries: Means-tested bursaries are available from Year 7 upwards. Bursary applications are reviewed on an annual basis and in light of the parents' financial circumstances, any award would be means-tested.
Forces Bursaries: There is a 10% bursary for children of service personnel entering Year 9 and upwards.
Clergy Remissions: There is a 25% remission for the sons and daughters of stipendiary clergy.
Siblings Discounts: These may be available as the Head's discretion.
Examinations Fees: Entrance fees for public exams are not paid by the school and are charged to parents.
