TRAIN SERVICES START ON MODEL RAILWAY
A year after construction started, the new model railway was officially opened for running by Mrs Joanna Evans, Chair of the Friends of Christ College in Summer Term 2009. Thanks to a grant of £400 from the Friends, the Model Railway Club was able to buy track and controllers for its new home in the DT block. Mrs Evans drove home the Golden Spike to put the final piece of the four-track main line into place, whereupon Chief Mechanical Engineer Lawrence Chu was able to drive off the first train.
A team of up to eight boys, under the supervision of railway enthusiasts Messrs Slaney and Johnston, has completed all the woodwork, wiring and tracklaying to get trains moving. Next year's tasks will be the completion of a branch line, building a goods depot and starting to add landscape and buildings.
The club has benefited from several donations of unwanted model railway equipment but any unloved engines, coaches or wagons languishing in attics would be gratefully received and given new life.
