Thank you for taking the time to find out about Christ College. I hope that by browsing around this website you will begin to establish a true sense of the unique character of the school and will want to come and visit for yourselves.
To a very large extent we are a product of our geography and our history. Set within the stunning scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Christ College was founded in 1541 by Henry VIII and every pupil proudly bears the ‘h’ logo that links the current members of the school with the founder. Our school motto, translated into English from the Latin, means ‘They achieve because they believe they can’ and this remains as true of today’s pupils as it has been throughout the history of the school; developing personal confidence and the willingness to take on new experiences and challenges are among the core aims of the school.
The chapel, historically at the heart of the Dominican friary that preceded the school’s foundation, remains a lively, vibrant and essential part of pupils’ lives, while at the same time we have state of the art facilities and highly professional modern teaching methods; this combination of tradition and modernity creates a wonderfully rich context in which our pupils develop an understanding of themselves and the world.
One of the most special things about Christ College is the warmth of the welcome here and the quality of relationships between pupils and staff. Atmosphere is something that can never be encapsulated in a document or website and it is the positive cooperative and purposeful atmosphere at Christ College that visitors so often discover. The virtual experience of the school gained by visiting this website, while I hope it is informative and enlightening, is no replacement for meeting the pupils and staff who make this wonderful community such an excellent environment for learning.
Our community is a small one and is closely knit in which pupils strive for their own successes but are equally keen to support one another and to celebrate each other's gifts and abilities. Some of the best moments in school life here involve the positive role models and mentors provided by senior pupils to the youngest in our community, from which both benefit enormously.
A school is all about people, and we have some very special people here, not least the academic staff, who are not just highly qualified and dedicated teachers but much more. They are committed to the personal development of pupils, encouraging them to achieve their goals and to grow into confident and accomplished adults. Pupils are well supported and advised at every stage, especially as they prepare to move on into the world of universities and work.
There is something magical about this place that can only be experienced at first hand and I look forward to meeting you and introducing you to it.
