Welsh Inter-schools Cross Country Championships

On Saturday 17th November Christ College was represented by a large number of fleet-footed pupils at the annual Welsh Inter-Schools Cross-Country Championships, held in Brecon on a bitterly cold Penlan course.

For the sixth successive year one of the school’s senior teams returned with medals: the Senior Girls’ team of Holly Rees, Emily James, Tiggy Llewellyn, and Hannah Meinertzhagen won a bronze medal (finishing third) in their category.

There were some notable individual efforts, too, with Steffan Raw-Rees finishing in the top twenty overall and Ben Wigmore, Davy Jones, and Sophie Meinertzhagen all doing well in their age-groups.

First Inter-Schools League Fixture: Tuesday 25 September, at Crickhowell.

Congratulation to Steffan Raw-Rees, Welsh International, who won the Senior Boys section of the competition.

Congratulations also to pupils placed in the top 10 of their section:
Senior Boys:
William Burton 4th, Kieran Marmion 5th, Thilo Bohm 7th, Josh Gaskell 9th.
Junior Boys: Ben Wigmore 5th
Senior Girls: Holly Rees 3rd, Hannah Meinertzhagen 5th, Tiggy Llewellyn 6th, Ellen Gowans 7th, Jodie Stevens 10th.
Junior Girls: Sophie Meinertzhagen 6th

There were some outstanding performances from pupils competing below their chronological age: in particular, William Burton in Form 4 competing against 6th formers, and Ben Wigmore, in Form 1, in a field of 100 competitors made up of 12 and 13 year olds.
