Lent Term 2008
Annual
Sports Personality Awards: 17 March 2008
Congratulations
to Emily James who was the winner in the Junior Sports
Personality U18 category and to Ben Wigmore who came
third in the U14 category and captained this year's winning team.
The Brecknockshire and Radnorshire
District Sports Council Annual Sports Personality Awards (for
achievements in 2007) took place at Theatr Brycheiniog Brecon
and was organised by Powys County Council’s Development Unit.
Sports
Development Officer, Helen Davies commented – “It is wonderful
to see how much sporting talent there is out there, Powys should
be proud that it has such talented individuals. The panel had a
very difficult time in deciding the winners and the runners up,
as the standard was the highest to date.”
Local sporting achievements were celebrated with 58 nominations
received for awards. |

 |
Emily is currently in the Welsh U18 Hockey squad preparing for the Home
Nations at Cardiff in July 2008. The tournament will take place at Welsh
Institute of sport over 4 days, playing England, Ireland and Scotland.
Emily has also been called up to train with the Welsh U21 squad this
season.
Ben who won the U14 category
in 2006 was selected for third place as an all rounder. He
has represented Powys in rugby, football, swimming and running
but has achieved greater success to date in hockey playing
regularly for South Wales and was selected for the Welsh U13
squad.

South Wales Boys Tournament
Congratulations to the U16 Boys Hockey XI who came second in
the U16 South Wales Boys Tournament, held on Wednesday 23 January at Brecon Leisure Centre.
Christ College won their first match against Dyffryn Taf 4-0, but
lost the next match 4-0 to a very strong Olchfa side, containing
several Welsh Internationals. Christ College bounced back, beating
Brecon High School 6-1 to round off and excellent day.
Kieran Marmion and Will Burton scored all of Christ College’s goals
between them.
The strength in depth of Hockey at Christ College was
demonstrated with excellent performances from Tom Trumper and Andrew Shough (Form 3) played excellently.
Hockey Coach, Steven Adams, also singled out Ben Whigmore (Form 1)
who played superbly even though he was half the size of some of the
players there.
Christ College is now well placed to go through to
the Welsh Schoolboys Hockey Finals to be held in Swansea in April
2008.

Runners up of U18 South Wales Schools Hockey Cup Competition
2007
 |
Congratulations to U18 Boys Hockey team who provided the
highlight of the boys’ season with a first ever appearance in
the South Wales Schools Cup on 26 April
2007,
emerging as runners-up.
Special thanks go to the two captains,
Nick Clarke and Owain Jones, who have galvanised the team this
year. |
|
The event took place at King
George V Fields in Swansea.
An early 1-1 draw against Pembrokeshire champions Dyffryn Taf
was followed by a 0-2 defeat at the hands of eventual
competition winners Whitchurch. The CCB team went on to win
against Stanwell 3-0: Ben John, scorer of two of those goals,
was declared (by his fellow team members) “man of the match”,
but coach Steven Adams praised the whole squad for their
admirable performance and sportsmanship – the organisers, he
reported, had thanked them for bringing such a high standard of
hockey to the competition. |

Kate Davies |
Representative Honours in Girls Hockey
Having represented South Powys at Under 19 Level during the
Michaelmas Term, Kate Davies, Sarah Greaney and Alex
Lines-Scrase were invited to attend trials for South Wales in
December.
As a result of Kate Davies' performances at these trials and at
two subsequent training sessions during the Christmas break,
Kate was selected to play for South Wales in an Under 19
triangular tournament, competing against teams from North and
South East Wales.
South Wales
finished second in the tournament and Kate was invited to pass
her contact details to the Welsh Schools selectors who will be
inviting her to attend Under 19 Welsh Schools Trials in the near
future.
|
Kate scored one double and six single hat tricks in 1st
XI matches played during the Michaelmas Term and consistently
works hard to develop her fitness and skills. Kate is a
great role-model for the junior players at Christ College who
she helps to coach.
Our congratulations go to Kate, Sarah and Alex on their
achievements and we wish Kate the best of luck for the Welsh
Schools Trial.
