Orchard House

(Boys’ Boarding and Day House for pupils in Year M9 to Upper Sixth)

Orchard House is the smallest of the three senior boys’ boarding houses, and is located on the edge of the school campus, a few minutes' walk from the main classroom block, the Sports Hall, and Dining Halls. There are around 45 boys in the house, predominantly boarders, and the accommodation is an eclectic mix of ancient and modern.

In recent years refurbishments throughout the building have significantly improved the quality of life for all. The street frontage is a striking Georgian House, gifted to the school by a previous Housemaster.

Although the smallest of the boarding houses, the building serves excellently as a modern boarding house. It has a considerably different feel to be most boarding houses being cosier and more intimate. Boys in the Year M9 and M10 sleep in dormitories and have separate study rooms (around 6 in a dormitory and up to 9 in study room); M11 pupilss share smaller study bedrooms (3 or 4 to a room); The sixth form currently all have a single study bedroom. There are three kitchens in the house, the largest of which serves as a fifth and sixth form common room. There are newly refurbished bathroom facilities, a refurbished laundry room, and a games room with a table tennis table and a pool table and the common room space has been extended and refurbished.

The House is run by Mr & Mrs Copp who arrived in Brecon in the Summer of 2008. They are assisted by a team of Assistant Houseparents and tutors, each of whom is responsible for tutoring a group of pupils within the House. The team of ancillary staff also contribute to the good-humoured, purposeful nature of the House.

Orchard House is certainly a friendly and supportive environment in which to spend one's Christ College years. Boys are encouraged to set their standards high and pursue their interests and ambitions with energy and enthusiasm.
