After a 5 year break, it was good to see friendly rivalry resuming on the cricket pitch as the COBS hosted the Old Llandoverians at Christ College.

According to one Old Llandoverian, one of their usual failings let them down in the end as they fell short of the total set by the COBs by 22 runs.

The COBS won the toss and decided to bat, getting off to a good start putting on 48 runs before they lost their first wicket. AJ Williams was the first to fall scoring 8 runs before being bowled by Rhys Davies. Greg Webber's innings lasted a couple of minutes as he was comprehensively bowled by Davies without scoring. Opening bat Will Burton hit an accomplished 29 runs before Davies claimed his 3rd scalp.  Some accurate bowling resulted in another wickets falling with Peter Shannon being bowled for a duck as the game swung the OLs way with COBs 63-4.

A decent partnership then followed as COBS moved onto 145-5 with James Davenport scoring 61 runs. he was supported by Des Lally (16) and B Price (20). Despite wickets falling regularly thereafter, 148-6, 153-7, 163-8, 163-9, the COBs tail wagged with ALG Jones adding 4 runs, Jim Lewis scoring 10 runs and R price  also scored 10 runs from the No11 berth. Captain of the day ALP Lewis sadly didn't trouble the scorers! COBS ended their innings on 176-9 after 40 overs with 18 extras proving to be significant. The main wicket takers were Rhys Davies (3-25), Danny Griffiths (3-11) and Jonathan Davies (2-35).

In reply the opening partnership of OLs Adam Hathaway and Danny Griffths got off to a solid start. Danny was the first to go caught behind on 18 off Greg Webber's bowling, and keeper ALG Jones showed he had not lost his skills behind the stumps. Adam was to follow shortly after having made 27, the Webber/ALG Jones combination being responsible for his downfall . By now the score was 63-2.  Jonathan Davies scored freely before he caught out on 26 off Peter Shannon. Pete Clay fell for 7, caught Lally bowled Davenport. Miles was out for just 5 runs leaving the remaining partnership of Carwyn Williams and Russell Hughes-Pickering to push home for what was now an unlikely victory, needing 50 runs without loss. Some runs did come but the COBs remained confident of the win. The final wicket fell on 154, as Will Burton bowled Hughes-Pickering for 2 runs, 22 runs short of the total, leaving Carwyn Williams stranded on a creditable 20 not out. Final score 154-8 (all out) off 32.1 overs.

After the match the COBS hosted a wonderful curry supper with an array of 'light' refreshments. Everyone enjoyed a great day out, having resumed not only the match but longstanding friendships with the old boys from Llandovery College.
