Old Breconians :
OB Day
Old Breconian Day 2010
This year, as in previous years, we were blessed with uninterrupted sunshine and wonderful company as the Old Breconian Association held their annual reunion day.
Old Breconian Day 2009
This year’s Old Breconian Day was especially important because we were giving an official opening to the RJ Boulton Archive Room – an occasion which would not have been possible without the generous financial support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and the tremendous work undertaken on our behalf by Peter Watkins (OB), in his project about life at CCB during the Headship of Canon Dyfrig James (1931-1956).
Old Breconian Day 2008
It must be something to do with the fact that we always begin the day's formalities with a chapel service, for once again the heavens were kind to us. The previous Sunday had been thoroughly wet, and the following one was not much better; but in the midst of all this unsummery weather 29 June turned up trumps, so that we were able not only to enjoy our pre-lunch drinks al fresco but the cricketers, after a brief delay at the start for a sharp shower, had an uninterrupted contest.
Old Breconian Day 2007
The Veterans (OBs who left in or before 1960) were this year’s invited group, and they responded in large numbers, as we have come to expect.
Old Breconian Day 2006
This year’s OB Day was preceded by a sustained period of fine weather, which made us fear the worst; but in the event the heavens delayed their opening until several hours after all our celebrations were over, only a brief sprinkling of light rain during pre-lunch drinks threatening to upset our plans for the day.
Old Breconian Day 2005
Communication with the gods of the weather had been as efficient as ever, and whereas Friday was wet and Saturday dull Sunday dawned and remained sunny and warm, though mercifully free of earlier high humidity. Panama hats of all shapes and sizes were much in evidence, and 130 OBs, wives, partners, children and former staff gathered to enjoy a pleasant day of relatively little formality and hours of reminiscing.
Old Breconian Day 2004
A very wet Saturday gave everyone involved with the organisation of this year’s OB Day not a few anxious moments – but we need not have worried. Such is our luck at the moment that Sunday proved largely dry and sunny, with the only sufferers the cricketers, who had to abandon the 1st XI match as a draw at 7.00 pm after the last of several heavy showers late in the day.
Old Breconian Day 2003
Yet again the sun smiled upon us, keeping the threatened rain at bay until well after the day’s proceedings were over. Around 120 OBs and their wives or partners from the pre-1960 era accepted the Headmaster’s invitation to spend the day at the school; and a similar number sent their regrets, many for the very good reason that they were soaking up the sun on holiday. Several of those attending were here for the first time; others were “regular” members of David Hughes’ band, who have been coming every year since 1991.
