Physics Competition
Local Students’ Super Science Success
Five students from Christ College, Brecon are looking forward to a 2-day
expenses paid trip to London for the Grand Final of a National Competition
organised by the Institute of Physics. The Paperclip Physics Competition
challenges students to demonstrate to a non-scientist an application or a
fundamental principle of physics using items that can be found in a typical
home. The Fifth Form (Year 11) team of Andrew Bridgeman, Forrest Hogg, Kathryn
Keane, Angharad Lewis and Ed Shackelford beat off opposition from 11 teams of
Sixth Form students across Wales to win the Welsh Final held at Cardiff
University. Their presentation ‘Air Force’ utilises stepladders, a melon and a
fan amongst other items as their script takes the audience from the Leaning
Tower of Pisa to the surface of the moon. This is the second year running that
Christ College will represent Wales in the Grand Final which will be held on the
31st March at the Institute of Physics in London.
