BEATRIX – INAUGURAL WINNER

Before Christ College Brecon Old Boy Hubert Jones, and his wife Florence died they were determined that talented youngsters would have the opportunity to benefit as Hubert Jones had from the school’s education opportunities.  They left a generous legacy to Christ College which has been devoted primarily to Scholarships to assist boys and girls wishing to study Medicine or Pharmacology to attend the school.  Most of these awards are available for entry to the Sixth Form, but a small number are available to the younger age groups.

The inaugural winner of the Hubert and Florence May Jones Junior Award this year is Beatrix Parry.  Formerly a pupil at St Tygwydd’s School, Penlan Beatrix comes from Boncath in Pembrokeshire and has been at Christ College for two years.  Bea came top of the applicants for the Scholarship demonstrating the expertise across the Sciences that was needed.  Not only is Bea an accomplished Scholar, but she is also a keen instrumentalist, a member of the school’s Chapel Choir and goalie for her Hockey Team.  Science obviously runs in the family as Beatrix’s father is a Chemist, entirely appropriate as the original benefactor, Hubert Jones was himself a Pharmacist.
