CCB Cadets On Top!

On Saturday 12th March a team of 10 Cadets from the Christ College Contingent competed in the All Wales Cadet Climbing Competition held at the Joint services Adventure Training Centre on Anglesey.

All cadets competed in the initial rounds, grouped by age and gender, climbing two routes which were scored according to height gained and the time taken. A cut was made with about half going on to the semi-finals, where the routes became more taxing. From these, two cadets made it through to the final in each category.  Christ College was well represented, with five cadets in the semi-finals, of which three made it to their respective finals.

In the finals, the climbers went one at a time in front of an expectant and supportive audience.  The climbs tested the cadets’ physical and mental stamina on some severely overhanging walls and the cadets from Christ College performed superbly.  Ben John was second Junior Boy while Holly Rees made it look easy in cruising to the title of Best Junior Girl, giving the school the overall Junior Title.  Matthew Smith took Best Senior Boy by some margin with a very powerful display.

Cadets eliminated in the qualifiers put together teams for a bouldering competition in which Christ College once again came out on top.

Thanks must go to the Army Benevolent Fund for providing a super collection of prizes; the Welsh Guards for providing manpower; and to 30 and 31 Cadet Training Teams for the work done to put the event together.
