Athletic success for Ryan
Ryan Spencer-Jones, a Christ College pupil who lives
in Brecon, is exciting interest from the athletics
world on both sides of the Atlantic. Ryan, who
specialises in athletic field events, especially the
shot-putt and discus, is shot-putt Champion for his
age group in Wales and came 3rd in the Great Britain
Schools’ Championships in the summer. Ryan’s
achievements have caught the eye of senior selectors
and although only aged 17, Ryan has been invited to
train with the Welsh U21’s Elite Athletic Squad. On
a recent visit to Texas, Ryan also caught the eye of
athletics’ coaches at Universities there as well as
exciting interest among the American Football
coaches. Ryan, who holds the School Records for
discus, shot-putt as well as playing for the 1st XI
this year is determined to complete his A level
studies before furthering his sporting career on one
or other side of the Atlantic.
