FIVE NEW TITLES AT POWYS SCHOOLS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP

 

The Powys Championships were held at the track at Penlan, Brecon May 24th. Schools from the whole of Powys attended and competition was incredibly stiff. 

Christ College sent a small team to compete due to the timings to exams. All of the boys and girls competed strongly and it was an excellent day for the college.

The highlights of the day were

Cameron MycIntyre and Peter Price both reached the Middle Boys' 100m final with Peter becoming Powys Schools Champion.

Immy Phillips ran well in both the Middle Girls 300m hurdles and in the 200m final finishing 3rd in both.

Jonny Cornish was runner up in the Middle Boys 400m.

Steffan Jones had a great day finishing 3rd in the Middle Boys shot putt and became Powys Schools Champion in the discus.

James Williams was superb in the throws picking up 2nd position in the Middle Boys shot putt and discus and became Powys Schools Champion in the hammer.

Patrick Howells ensured the proud tradition of distance running by beating all age groups in the 3000m race with an excellent sprint finish to also pick up the Powys Schools Champion accolade.

Patrica Fernandez Alavrez ran brilliantly in the Junior Girls 1500m winning by at least 70m to become the Powys Schools Champion.

Winners are traditionally invited to represent Powys at the Welsh Athletics Championships, Cardiff in June.
