Cricket

Cricket at Christ College continues to be very strong with the school capable of running teams from 1st XI right down to an U12 XI, on Wednesdays and Saturdays with our teams playing all of the good cricketing schools in the area.

The main aims are for our cricketers are quite simple:

  • to enjoy their cricket;
  • and to maximise their potential..

To this end, teams have their own dedicated coaches who work with the boys throughout the summer. All of our teams play against local schools, clubs and county sides in both England and Wales. Indoor nets are used during the Lent term or when the weather is poor, with our cricketers being fortunate to receive one-to-one coaching from ex-Glamorgan CCC star and Wales U15 coach Darren Thomas.

 "The sense of sporting tradition is inspiring"

 The school's wonderful location and outstanding facilities ensure that many prestigious matches are played on the Christ College cricket square. Each summer we also host a 20;20 Cricket Festival which attracts teams from all over the UK and overseas. It is an opportunity for the school to show off its excellent facilities and in particular the excellent wickets that are looked after by our very knowledgeable groundsman.

The Forty Club named the 2012/13 Christ College 1st XI as their 'Most Improved Opponents' at their Annual Dinner held in the Long Room at Lord's in October. The 2012/13 1st XI captain, James Mitchell, received an award from The Forty Club's Patron, The Duke of Edinburgh, during the prestigious event.
